Tennis
is a racket sport played between two players or two teams of two
players. This game is played with a stringed racquet and a hollow rubber
ball. Players hit the ball over a net in oppositions court to gain
points. This game is usually played in three or five sets. In each set,
the player who win six games earlier than his competitor wins the set.
In each game, player achieving six points prior to his opponent wins the
game. Player who win two sets (out of three set match) or three sets
(out of five set match) first win the match.Tennis is originally known as Lawn Tennis. It is usually played as indoor game but also outdoor game as well. It is played on hard court, clay court, and grass court. Lawn tennis started in England in the 1870s from the game of royal or real tennis. First tennis championship was held at Wimbledon in 1877.
Major Tournaments of Tennis
The four major tournaments of tennis are known as Grand slams, they are :
- Australian open: It is the
starting tournament of grand slam year, played in Australia in
January.
- French open: The only clay court
grand slam tournament, played in France in the month of June.
- Wimbledon: The most prestigious
tournament, the title is dream of every tennis player, played in
England in June/July.
- US open The last grand slam tournament, played in united states in September.
