Cue/Cue
stick is a long, tapering rod, tipped with a soft leather pad, used to
strike the ball in cue sports like billiards, pool, snooker etc. They
are also known as pool cue/snooker cue/billiard cue.
- Length of Cue: The length of cue should be 40 inches (1.016 m) minimum and it has no maximum limitations.
- Weight of Cue: The maximum weight of a cue shouldn't be more than 25 oz. (708.75 gm). While there is no limitations on use of minimum weight cue.
- Width of Tip: The maximum width should be 14mm.
Cue sticks are primarily made from wood. But sometimes the wood is covered with other materials like graphite or fiberglass. The tip of cue must not be of such materials which may scratch or damage the ball or table surface. The cue tip is generally made of processed leather or any other elastic material which is not capable of producing any harm.
Types of cues:
Cues are of following major types :
- One piece cue: It is a one piece cue used in pool games generally by the casual players.These cues decrease in diameter evenly from the butt to the tip i.e. They are evenly tapered.
- Two piece cue: It is divided in the middle for ease of transport. Two piece cue generally come in a cue case. Another type is two piece cue but the joint is located three-quarters down the cue (usually 12 or 16 inches away from the butt).
- Other types: Some cues have three to five joints. They can be used for breaking, jumping, changing of weights on the butt. They are also used as extensions on the butt end for longer reaches.
