How is the game played ?

Basketball games whether played informally or professionally follow generally consistent rules. With a few exceptions, these rules have changed little since the game's invention in 1891. Games are played in four quarters of 10 minute each with five players on the ground. Five players are reserved for the substitution during the game. Substitution can be done only when play is stopped. The game begin with a jump ball at center court. The ball is thrown up while two opposing players try to direct the ball to the control of their teammates. In the basket ball game, the players throw a round inflated ball through a raised basket like goal. It is played on a rectangular court, and scores are made by throwing the ball through a high metal hoop and net at the opponent's end of the court. This goal basket is located 10 feet above the ground.
