A
basketball rim mounts to a backboard, holding a net in place with steel
clips. Basketball rims are 18 inches in diameter and should be at least
5/8-inch thick.Generally two types of rims are found in the market: Fixed rims and Breakaway rims.
Fixed rims
Fixed rims are attached directly to a backboard using a piece of metal. These rims are a good option for those players who don't hang off the rim or avoid practice dunking.
Breakaway rims
Breakaway rims are suitable for the people who hangs of the rim or persistently dunks a ball. These rims have sufficient flexibility that prevent them from breaking.
