Badminton Equipment

Badminton Badminton is a racket sport played with a racket and a shuttlecock. It is played either by two opposing players or two opposing pairs. It is a major sport played almost in all parts of the world and in all major sporting events like Olympics, Asian games, European games, Inter continental games etc . History of Badminton
Modern badminton started in Pune, in India in 1860's. Earlier it was known as "Poona". The British army officers started playing the game of battledore and shuttlecock. Earlier it was a fun game but they made it competitive by adding a net.. The officers took the game back to England where it became very popular. After that it spread to Denmark and U.S.A. First rules of badminton were printed in Karachi in 1877.

IBF-- The Governing Body
International badminton federation is the governing body of badminton.
  • In 1934, the International Badminton Federation (IBF) was established.

  • At present IBF has about 140 member nations.

  • The growth of badminton accented after its inclusion as medal sport in 1992 summer Olympics games.

  • IBF has estimated that about 200 million people around the world play badminton while 1000 players participate in international competitions.
Change in Scoring System
  • IBF has decided to adopt 21 point scoring system in all tournaments.

  • This scoring system started in Thomas /Uber cup 2006.

  • Earlier to this each game was of 15 points.
