Measuring tapes are important accessories used in sporting events
specially track and field events. These measuring tapes are used to
measure the distance between any two points either on the tracks or in
the grounds. These high quality tapes help to calculate the accurate
measurement in both standard and metric. Measuring Tapes Of Varying Lengths :
The measuring tapes come in various lengths ranging from smaller distance tapes to larger distance tapes. Smaller tapes are used in long jump, high jump etc while longer tapes are used in hammer throw, javelin etc. Depending upon the events or game in which it is to be used it is of different lengths like :
- 15 m
- 30 m
- 60 m
- 75 m
- 90 m
- 120 m.
Depending on the material used in these tapes, basically two types are mostly used :
- Steel measuring tape
- Fiberglass measuring tape.
- Steel tapes used for measuring records have open reel in frame.
- It shows both English and Metric measurements.
- Zero is at metal end for quick, easy measurement.
- Steel do not stretch out as a fiberglass tape may, so gives very accurate measurement.
- Fiberglass measuring tapes are more flexible and long lasting.
- They are very tough and possess high tensile strength.
- They don't break when twisted or stepped on and will not shrink, rust or mildew.
- The tapes are usually two-sided with English scale on one side and Metric on the other.
- It has a metal or plastic case and may come with or without handle.
- These tapes are usually vinyl-coated.
