Shot Put Ball Throwing Instructions

May 28, 2010- Throwing a shot put ball is not an easy task. One needs a lot of strength and smart technique to throw the heavy ball at a certain distance. Check out the step by step instructions to throw the shot put ball here:

• The very first thing to do is to enter the ring with the shot in your hand. The right way to hold the ball is to use the thumb and little finger to make a grasp on the ball and support it lightly with the three middle fingers and the palm facing upwards.
• Now stand at the end of the ring with the back facing the field. Right handed throwers should put most of their weight on the right foot with the foot flat. Now the shot should be placed on the right side of the neck just below the jaw. The throwing elbow has to be kept below the shoulder.
• Next, bend your knees and lower your weight to set into a couching position. The major portion of weight should be on the right leg. Keep both the legs close to one another with the left toe slightly touching the ground for stability. Now the left arm needs to be relaxed and has to be extended out by your side of balance.
• The hips has to dropped into a low seating position. The shot put thrower has to be driven with the right leg and the left leg needs to be extended up and out towards the toe board. The entire power of the body has to be transferred explosively into the throwing arm just at the moment when body starts turning sideways.
• Now as the hip starts to open, throw the arm up and out towards the field. Keeping the elbow upwards release the shot with a slight snap of your wrist and throw it out into the field. Finish the throw by facing the field. Since stepping out can discard the throw and may end up in a foul, try to maintain your balance and make sure that you don't step onto the toe board.
